Technology has improved our lives beyond imagination. Imagine if someone belonging a few decades back eras came to our time, he would not believe what his eyes would see. Because the innovation and invention in technology are super fabulous and remarkable.

The major side effect of technology is too much screen time and the problem of too much screen time can be witnessed among a major portion of teenagers and adults.
Now you can ask how can you avoid the screens of digital devices when the majority of jobs these days require you to spend a lot of time in front of the screen. Yes, I know to do your job you need to spend due time in front of screens, but I am talking about the time that we spend scrolling social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp. A lot of people are spending many hours scrolling these websites when they have nothing to do with their job life or well-being.
I know most of you have never thought about how much in actuality they are spending in front of the screen and how badly it is ruining your health. If your digital devices could send you weekly reports on your screen time, then you must get a real picture and might think about your health.
Not only teenagers and adults are spending too much time in front of screens, but these days, a lot of children too are spending a lot of time in front of screens and this thing is quite alarming for us all. Children who are growing every day and need to learn new things and skills for life are wasting their time and energy on the wrong things and this won’t let their brains grow properly.
The issue of using too much screen time has become a worldwide problem and I can share a few points to make you realize how it is ruining our lives and lifestyles.
- The light that comes out of mobile phones and other similar gadgets signals your brain to stay awake and you will not feel sleepy. When you keep this routine for a longer period, you start losing your healthy sleep pattern.
- Too much time spent in front of screens puts pressure on your eyes and head and as a result, you may suffer from headaches or eyestrain.
- When you spend too much time in front of the screen, you become addicted to it and also to social media websites that you keep scrolling all day.
- Another issue that many people are facing due to too much screen time is pain in the neck, shoulders, and backbone.Â
- Children who spend a lot of time in front of screens can face problems in their brain development like they may suffer from delays in speech and cognitive issues.
- When you spend a lot of time in front of screens, you become physically inactive and your health starts deteriorating. In past generations, people were used to remaining physically active and doing the majority of their chores without any help, that’s why they were quite healthy and lived long lives.
- Tips to reduce screen time
If you want to reduce your screen time, here are some tips for you.
- Delete all those applications and games that are not relevant to your daily life or work life, but are making you spend time in front of screens.
- Use a timer on your phone so that you become aware of how much time you are using your phone. You can also set the timer on an alarm clock and place it far away so that when the alarm starts ringing you have to stop using your mobile and get up from the couch to switch off the alarm.
- Try to keep your phone and other gadgets away from you like in other rooms. This trick will let you forget about your gadget and soon you will come out of its addiction.
- Everything posted on social media is not real
Social media websites were developed to share your thoughts, learn new things, interact with others, and market your products and social media gave a lot of benefits to its users. Then people started misusing social media websites by stalking and cyberbullying others and ruining the lives of many people. But one thing that is affecting the lives of people mostly is that whatever they see on social media consider it true.Â
For example, you belong to the middle class and have good facial features and body. You are educated and living a happy life and have no complaints about your life and its circumstances. Then one day you started using Facebook and Instagram and viewed posts of different people who are living in big and lavish houses. You liked the post and moved on. But the problem would begin when instead of moving on you felt envy for someone’s ideal figure and glowing skin. Then you saw the big house and you started disliking your flat. Now you want to get a big house, an ideal figure, and glowing skin without even knowing whether the posts that you saw on Instagram or Facebook depict the true picture of the lifestyle of the person who posted them or not. Maybe he used a lot of makeup and filters to become picture perfect and the house he posted was bought by taking a loan from back and now he had to pay big mortgage installments every month to pay back the loan.Â
So, without knowing the truth behind every post, stop believing it and stop cursing your circumstances. Instead of wasting your energy and time by spending too much time scrolling the posts of others, you need to get up and utilize that energy to make your life better.Â
Many pages on Instagram and Facebook give tips to people to stay healthy and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. So, you should visit those pages and see their posts to get inspiration to improve your lifestyle.
You have been given only one life, so stop wasting it by getting depressed over other people’s posts. You need to focus on your own life and reform it to live your life to the fullest and become an inspiration for others.
