The Lifestyle of the Cultural Elite: Is It a Healthy One?
In society, the cultural elite have a special niche as leaders through whom change often trickles into other spheres such as those of arts, literature, music, fashion, and even further. The cultural elite are typically characterized by their refined taste, intellectual pursuits, and perhaps outrageously lavish lifestyle. Beneath the varnish of sophistication and glamour, though, lies a complex landscape to which questions of health and well-being come to the fore. This essay examines the lifestyle of the cultural elite in terms of their many different dimensions, trying to determine whether such a lifestyle can be considered healthy or not.

All this wealth and indulgence has the air of sophistication and refinement, their fantasy-catching onlooker aspirants.

Under the aura of brilliance and high birth, however, lies an unremitting pursuit of perfection at the cost of health and well-being of the cultural elite. For maintaining this spotless image of success and refinement, pressure mounts to invite stress, anxiety, and burnout into one’s life. Whether it be maintaining appearances at social gatherings, keeping a perfect profile on social media, or merely trying to stay current with the latest cultural happenings, members of the cultural elite are caught in this never-ending cycle of performance and validation.
This need to stand out goes beyond aesthetics and social standing into intellectuals and creativity. The cultural elite have to be able to have encyclopedic information on art, literature, music, and other fields that involve culture; they are also expected to give learned discourses on various subjects. Such intellectual life may be intellectually stimulating, yet at the same time mentally burdensome and met with feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome.

Certain culturally elite people seek perfection and a culture of excess. These, in turn, can result in physical, mental, and emotional health problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. On the other hand, however, there is a likely culture of health and wellness that may be built into this stratum to the extent that many have come to realize the need for self-care, balance, and holistic well-being.
In short, it boils down to hedonism versus health, indulgence versus moderation, privilege entailing responsibility. If hedonism and health go together then indulgence and moderation find their place as does privilege with responsibility. Thus, this cultural elite can have very satisfying meaningful lives while continuing to mold and shape the cultural scenery.
So, if you are the one who is a follower of the cultural elite lifestyle, then you should try to find out whether your style of living is a healthy one or not. If your way of life is below par, then kick it off and replace the negative features of your lifestyle with the positive ones.
